"Thanks to everyone who entered invade rage. There were
a huge number of entries, so it has been taking longer than expected to go through them all. We hope to have more
news for you, and a winner, very very soon now....

In the meantime, check out one punter who took matters into his own hands instead of waiting to apply!"

That punterfolks, is me.

Ahhhh the sweet beauty of the modern icon.

here we see the delectable (love that front end!) Mercedes Benz SLK280 sitting alongside the cute (but BITEY!) Mini Cooper S "Chilli".

Neil seemed to like them both, but particularly liked the Mercedes-Benz. perhaps I am finally convincing him it's time to admit that he can spend $100K and not end up in the poor house.

It does however mean his offspring would not find themselves having a drive in Dad's car- and well they might NOT.

Yes folks on test at the moment: the sexy and sleek SLK280.

Do I like the looks? yes?

Do I think this car is "perfect"? No, I do not!

We'll be featuring this car on the show this Wednesday so no spoilers from me. you'll have to tune in!

Plague monkey dies in US zoo. 22/05/2007. ABC News Online: "Colorado health and zoo officials say a Denver Zoo monkey has died of bubonic plague, apparently after eating a squirrel stricken with the disease."

While the death of any animal in captivity that would otherwise be in the wild but for man's need to be Big Brother is always sad, this particular situation caught me eye. It caught my eye because frankly it satisfies my need for black humour.

Vermuelen wins!

I'm sure it came as some relief to Chris Vermuelen to win his first MotoGP race yesterday at Le Mans

As a second year rider, the pressure would be coming on mid-to-late season to get a podium or a win. Last year he achieved at Phillip Island (2nd) along with two pole positions that did not convert into wins.

So the hoodoo is broken. He went the right way at his press conference (as he so often does) by basically admitting he's very good in the rain but now wants a dry win.

For some reason the global press consider the rain win as something that does not cement you as a good rider. I think the opposite is true. As Darryl Beattie said "Take the horsepower out of it (ie when it rains) and Chris is The Man." Too true!

For the sport of motorcycling (especially in Australia) this could not come at a better time. Chris is one of Australia's most level headed, thoughtful and eloquent sports people at the moment. He will make a great ambassador for Australia and for MotoGP back into Australia. Sponsors: get aboard the V-train!

I've followed his career since '99 when he first raced in Oz Superbikes before the visionary that was Barry Sheene snagged him a British Superbike ride. I've also been fortunate enough to interview Chris on several occasions- the first being in his first (guest) MotoGP ride at Phillip Island on a Honda in 2005 when rode really well and showed he was not over-awed by the occasion.

I was a little skeptical when he first when to MotoGP with Suzuki. It seemed that another year in World Superbike would be best- he would have been favourite and a WSBK title would sit well next to his WSS title. That said, it also might have poisoned his technique- and there is no doubt that MotoGP (esp in the 800cc era) needs a different technique to WSBK and the failure of most WSBK riders in MotoGP is proof.

But Chris knew something that the rest of us jumped over. Honda have been poor to bad in the 800cc era, so waiting in WSBK (in '06) for a chance to ride a satellite 800cc Honda would have been a very bad move. Suzuki have shown a steady determination to succeed and I think this win will give them the confidence that they really can dice with the best. I think the belief has always been there, but now they have the proof as well.

So, huge congratulations Chris- now get that dry weather win!!

YouTube - Christmas Island detention centre

YouTube - Christmas Island detention centre...

This needs a campy voice over:
"As an Illegal immigrant, you will get to see all that a detention centre can offer: self harm, children crying, riots and beatings... Are you into water sports? Then you MUST try water-boarding!

Our a la carte slops bin will give provide the nutrition you need to sit around for 5+ years while your application is stuffed around. If you are really lucky you may be declared stateless- this will allow you to stay on indefinitely and really see all that an 8' X 4' cell can offer!

Are you a mentally ill Australian with an accent? Well this is the place for you! Forget treatment and loved ones, why not try treatment-free sub-human jail conditions?!"

If only it were this funny...

I envy me...

Rolling:

  • 32" LG LCD TV.
  • LG DVD/HDD/digital set top box all in one
  • Xbox 360 with Crackdown pack that gives me access to the beta testing for this
  • 5.1 surround system.
Techno geek am I, but methinks I have the setup that will take me forward for at least 6 months. Ok 5. 4 minimum.

Damn, I want another Xbox controller and the wireless networking kit. damn damn damn!

Confession: I've had the TV/DVD/surround sound setup for a while and the sound has been crappy at best. A close inspection has revealed that the centre speaker and the subwoofer were wired around the wrong way.

At this rate I will lose my geek-club card.

Well folks, progress being made. This is my second attempt at High Dynamic Range (HDR) photography (and photoshop work). This is not all that good, but I'm learning. Each photoshop procedure feeds the way I will take the photographs. So: standby.

Wishing Kusty a speedy recovery...

DVS Honda star rider Adam "Krusty" Fergusson is in a stable condition in the Launceston General Hospital after a very nasty crash during testing at Symmons Plains,Tasmania yesterday. The 2004 dual Australian Champion suffered multiple fractures across his body and lost consciousness for a short time after the crash and is out for the remainder of the season. He is scheduled to have his first surgery this afternoon to plate both legs. Further surgeries are expected.

More details will be released as they are confirmed.

The entire team at DVS Honda wish him a full and speedy recovery and would like to thank the track staff and in particular the other teams and riders for their support and assistance at the trackside.

It goes without saying that I hope Krusty is up and about and back on deck in a timely and healthy manner.

This accident, from all reports, was humongous and has badly broken both his legs.

But it's hard to keep a good man down and harder still to keep a hard man down, so I full expect Krusty to rise up and walk across Bass Straight to M-town.

Get well soon mate.

On the air: 3AW - End of road for Fairlane.

"A significant decline in sales of vehicles in the upper large segment over the past few years has meant that local production of long wheelbase variants, primarily for domestic sale only, is currently no longer sustainable," Gorman said.

I'll be on 3AW's news (whenever!) with my "expert" thoughts on the demise of the Ol' Fairlane.

In short: so sad too bad. Big Whoop.

Thomasr hosts RAGE!!

Celebrate 20 years of Rage with me:

Ok not FULLY true, but kinda true... As Rage is celebrating 20 years, I thought I would choose a selection of videos that I saw first on Rage. Then I thought "why not have a Rage-style segment between each song?" That seemed cool. Then I thought "Why not grab the Rage logo and do the Rage blue-sepia look as well?" Done. Final touch was to prepare this as a fully featured youtube playlist and embed it right here...
